The Church foundation goes back to 1599 while the building was completed in 1638 with the works made
by Mastro Giovanni Battista Pianca, to whom the windows and the roof cover were committed
The festivities of the Virgin Visitation (31 May), Saint Grato (first days of September) and Saint Barbara
December) were celebrated here in the past.
In its interiors there were frescos of Saint Liberata, Saint Barnaba, Saint Grato and the Visitation.
The Church administrators were the inhabitants of the farmsteads of Valletto, Saint Lorenzo, Boscona,
Pomaro, Scivicco, Pavarano and Vernetto.
The latter evidence of expenses for the renovation of the Church goes back to 1931.
After that period, the Church declined towards its complete ruin,the result of which is visible by the fact
that the current building is composed only by three main walls.
There are still memories of the fact that, during the Sixties, the local women laid wild flowers in front of the
Church collected during the works in the fields.
From 1995 the Council of Roppolo has begun the restauration of the area by cleaning it from the plants and
briars that had overgrown all around its surroundings.
In 2014 it has been decided to intervene again, among the Programme of public benefit “ Agricoltura e
Turismo alle porte della collina morenica”, which brought to the restauration of the walls, the pavement
and the altar basement, followed by the positioning of this information plaque.
Chiesa di Sant’ Elisabet is a meaningful place for the inhabitants of Roppolo, that are committed not to lose
its memory also by its valorisation through the itinerary of the “buon cammino”.
